The problem with trying to win the policy argument is that key media outlets are often owned by people who would personally benefit from leaving the ECHR. They set the agenda and the tone. We can’t have a reasonable and fair debate in this country until the media is restructured and reformed.
Maybe the line is "don't trust lying politicians who lie with your rights. Look at the US". Not a comfortable argument for politicians to make, but campaigners certainly can
Lying with people's rights helped put Boris Johnson into No.10, so unfortunately it's a proven strategy, or at least not a risky one. In any event it's always likely to be a challenge winning over the people who don't mind being lied to, so long as they're being told the lies they want to hear.
