i read 50+ in 2023 (2024 i was slacking) - i don’t ever annotate, never have. it was my #1 main form of entertainment, i read before bed every night & usually on breaks from work, after work, at disney world, basically everywhere. i read lots of series’ so always went through in order.

i also have a ton of books on my shelves i’ve never read so i usually go in there & stare at them until i think “oooh yea ive been meaning to read that” so i pick it up. this year i hope to keep up with the TS book list but ive only read once in 3 days so not looking too good 😭

the replies here tell me i should totallyyyyy get into audiobooks. i listen to HELLA podcasts, i need to give audiobooks another try. the structure doesn’t work as well for me though 😭😭😭 i like conversational

I didn’t read as much last year because I was in the throes of autistic burnout, but read over 100 in 2023. I made the switch to audiobooks in 2020 (after much internal resistance) and it’s been a game changer for me. It allows me to do other things with my hands (games, cleaning) and the combo

scratches my brain in the best way. I don’t have a set plan, I usually go based off of vibes/whatever themes appeal to the gremlin in my brain at that time. Been doing it since I was a kid spending a lot of my time at the library. I’d read everything in a specific genre or by a specific author.

Generally I am reading a twisty thriller, whether that’s in the mystery, sci-fi, horror, or fantasy genre. Forever looking for something to surprise me because my brain is always trying to solve puzzles in the background. This year I’m making an effort to read more physical books again, and diving

deeper into history and theory and psychology and nonfiction. Those are also the books I’m more likely to annotate.

Lastly, I am a SLUT for Libby, it has absolutely changed my reading life (and saved my wallet) - cannot recommend enough.

This is so me. I never had the ability to sit and read a whole book unless I was absolutely obsessed with it, and I don’t find that many stories that compelling regularly. I got audiobooks last year and my patience and focus improved so much

pretty easy to get through a book a day or two when im really in it! i have 3 libraries hooked to my libby so i can usually find what i want for free. i didn’t track but this year but i read abt 50-70 in 2024 i would estimate.

This is how I am - I always thought I couldn’t do audiobooks because of ADHD but now I use them to help me survive mundane things (like driving across the country alone 3x 😅). As soon as I sit down on the couch or have to think too hard about something I’m doing, I have to stop the book.

Audiobooks were a huge game changer for me! I like to audiobook and do puzzles or audiobook and game at times, although there are books I need to read the words for. I watch movies with my partner but I read when I'm doing solo stuff. I want to be a little better about what to pick next

The Three Body Problem series has back on a series kick, I loved them!

I liked Women Who Run With the Wolves, Circe, The Blacktongue Thief, and Her Body and Other Parties

My fav was Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Lovely fairy tale vibes with real stakes & women who care about each other

I don't have a specific routine and read in spurts like I do a lot of hobbies.

I want to read fewer books but longer series more this year so far, but I often really enjoy novellas

The most important thing for me is getting through the first third in one sitting. If I have to stop before then, I end up taking ages to finish something because it feels like a narrative slog. But if I make it through the first act, I’m usually hooked and can finish easily. 🎣

I decide what to read based on topic so alternating heavy and light. Like I am reading a fiction that’s heavily rooted in trauma and after this I’ll probably do a YA/queer fluffy fantasy or romance 💘

I’m always reading 10-40 books at once lol, so I’m not often consciously choosing what to read next, but I spend a lot of time reading about & talking about books, & I have a million holds on Libby & a TON of unread physical books at any given time. If no new books came out I’d be set for life 😂

It depends on what you’re into, but if you need high-intensity books I’d look up “slump busters,” “engrossing book” lists etc, plus try genres like mystery/thriller, horror, graphic novels, romance if that’s your thing. Follow your interests (like reading books rec’ed for Swifties/Gaylors) (1/2)

You can also look up lists of books for getting back into reading. Try audiobooks while doing other things (esp boring things you wouldn’t like doing otherwise). Series are good for being already invested in the chars/story. Quit a book if you’re not into it!! Don’t force yourself to read anything!

I have some friends that are big readers and post their book reviews which helps 😂 For romcoms I look up lists of wlw books bc straight couples are boring 😜 A lot I find on the Libby app itself just looking up whatever genre I like and what’s available at the time 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t drive with it but I can do everything else, like cook, laundry, clean, flying, walking, design work sometimes. I speed up fiction a lot and that helps with my adhd but non fiction I keep it at regular speed lol

Also to chose I tend to try and go back and forth between my preferred genres (mystery/thriller vs romcom) and will look on Libby for the “skip the line” books or see what people I follow have been reading. Or search for an author I’ve read/liked previously for more of their work.

Yesss! I hardly do holds anymore - when I’m done with a book or I know I’m finishing soon I just go straight to skip the line and see what’s there 😂 I finish them fast enough so it’s not a problem for the shorter loan period!

I did 101 this year and the 70% of that was on audiobook. My adhd requires my brain to have another source of distraction to concentrate on mechanical tasks (chores, exercise, etc) is also a bit for dissociation tbh. So I listen all day, only read before bed and on the bus, and choose with my 🩷

I will get in a reading groove and sneak reading in anytime I can for 2-4 books, then not read at all for a couple of weeks while I stream shows or whatever else. It comes in waves! Most people I know who read 50+ do mostly audio.
