Two notes on "who locked the door behind them?". Is it really that uncommon for your front door to auto lock if it closes?

We have one that auto locks (or can), but it's a "smart" lock, so you may have to plant a seed earlier.
It can also auto unlock. I haven't carried a house key with me for over 10 years now.

I don't know anyone that has a front door that auto locks.
Feels like something that might be a standard feature in an apartment?

House I grew up in did it. It was a 1920s Tudor.
Dorm room and apartment do it. I can switch it so it doesn't. I did that so often at my dorm just so I didn't have to take my key for a quick trip.

I wouldn't say it's a standard feature anymore for stand-alone homes unless you have a smart lock with a keypad.

Maybe it's a northeast/New York thing. 🤷♀️

Could be.
I'm in the Midwest, people here aren't big on locking their doors 😆 Or using the front door at all.

Our back door and garage didn't auto lock. We used those more. Also lighter doors.
