In 2012-2013, I was doing a gig for Legendary Entertainment. One of my direct supervisors was the head of the company, a literal billionaire. A chauffeur would pick me up at my tiny studio apartment, I'd fly to Burbank, another chauffeur, a meeting with The Billionaire...and home same way, same day.

This was surreal as fuck. I was making $11/hour as a security guard. I made friends with the chauffeurs, because I couldn't relate to anyone else.

It was bizarre and dissociative, very "This is not my beautiful house, this is not my beautiful wife, how did I get here" territory.

But I also thought... that's how things *were*, now. That I was just on my way up.

I didn't understand success isn't always linear, or cumulative.

(Chris, my driver in Portland, was fantastic. The first time he drove me, we bro'ed down about art and weird success. He played his girlfriend's album for me. At one point, he offered me a driving job. He also offered to drive me and my friends around at night downtown, if I wanted to impress them.)

Wish I'd kept up with that guy. He was one of the good ones! Comics opened some *amazing* doors — including some surprising side-doors I never would've expected.

Internship at Marvel; which opened the doors to doing so much more. My last comic came out in 2022; spent the last 7 years in games
