My dad used it constantly. I use it sometimes in earnest and then realize it’s weird afterwards. It’s a GREAT scrabble word for vowel killing

"Wheelhouse" is another one. Before podcasts, it was only encountered in classes about 19th century literature. Now it lives in podcasts.

Regional differences always come into play. I wonder if it got into podcasts from a New England connection. I lived in Arkansas, now North Carolina, so fairly different sets of idioms down here.
