Awful. Since before my very first days in public health, data from the DHS have been absolutely critical to decision-making by county ministries of health and to researchers around the world. It’s hard to imagine the field of global health without the DHS program.

This wasn’t in HHS. It was funded by USAID and largely run by a government contractor. It remains to be seen what will become of US-focused health surveys under the purview of HHS (especially CDC and the National Center for Health Statistics).
