It makes sense to me. But I think a lot about incomplete feedback extrapolation so maybe I get how the reasoning goes.
I've been rejected by a lot of women. I've probably rejected even more women than that. Few of the women who rejected me told me why so I had to guess. My data points were limited.
so every time a date ended badly it was, what did I say wrong? Was my hair bad? Am I just (still) too fat? Was it because my shirt was too tight and she noticed my man boobs? And we either grab a sour grapes excuse ("she probably only like gym bros") or grab a negative inner narrative like these
and without real information we fall back to general advice. Men's Health is all about body building. General interest women's magazines feature size zero runway models. This is our default cultural messaging. Then what, podcasts like Rogan? Sports? All similar messaging, none about communication

Women think men want thinner than we do. And that's true. We mostly want "not fat" but also not "skinny", ie "normal range BMI"
and i think it's still polar thinking. Men and women both mostly want closer to "medium" than tend to assume.
