OFMD was a rarity: a canon I was both a wholehearted fan of and one that made me rabidly fannish. With a year's hindsight and in light of certain recent posts, I'm seeing now that the reason the show seemed to shine so bright for me was just that there was enough glitter to hide the rough. 2/5

And that's not a bad thing! I have a renewed appreciation for how collaborative a medium television is. For how much one idea, one line, one acting choice, one song, one shot can stand out. For how powerful a thing storytelling is, even when your voice isn't the only, the loudest, or the last. 3/5

It's taken me a while to realize that the show I loved didn't really exist as such. But it's freeing too, in a fannish sense, to be able to stuff my pockets full of all those pieces I liked and walk away from disappointment. So many characters, scenes, and ideas I can loot like a proper pirate. 4/5

I hope other people are inclined to stay with me in the sandbox, because while the show's story wasn't necessarily going the interesting, compelling, emotionally intelligent, or novel places I thought it was: you guys have brought it there. You do it every day, and it's been amazing. 🏴‍☠️❤️ 5/5
