Video gaming's golden rule oughta be, "Even if it's not for me, it might still be of interest to thee."
Even the very worst games ever made still have an audience that loves them despite their flaws.
Tearing things down is easy; sharing why they're interesting takes insight.

It was a frustrating experience if you didn't read the manual, but it functioned and even had some neat ideas.
There was plenty of shovelware on the 2600 in 1983-4, but ET was better than a lot of it.
I love this book by the creator.
I also think about how there's already so much negativity in the world, so maybe I can do my part to bring in a little more positivity and just NOT tear into something because it's easy or popular to do.
The Wacky World of Miniature Golf with Eugene Levy
(How could that not be at least a little bit entertaining?!)
There were a lot of creative and talented people working with this thing and they did their best with a VERY… “imperfectly designed” system. I have good memories going through the weird and obscure, but alas it’s getting too expensive to do that now
I know Burn:Cycle and The Apprentice and Kether are well-regarded. Any others?
I enjoy Mega Maze and think it should be ported to mobile devices
Alice in Wonderland is so bizarre that it’s stuck with me, although it’s easy to permanently miss items that are required to progress. Boo that
If you aren’t like that, don’t spend the $
This also extends to fighting game rosters; some people act a character is a bad addition because they're just not for them.
EA Sports has a monopoly on a large number of sports. If you're a fan of those sports there's only 1 new game to play. Sure someone might like them still but that's probably because they like the sport it is based off of.
We just like the sport and want to play a nice video game about it with our fav players
Thanks for sharing!
One writer I love is the Digital Antiquarian, Jimmy Maher.
He understands the undercurrents of gaming at a deep level and his writing is top notch!

Talking about that stuff also gives it oxygen to survive in an attention economy where it'd otherwise die.
I once knew a guy who was a huge Sonic 2006 fan. How or why, I never understood, because it's a game that's hard to enjoy. But he loved it!
This is the exact kind of bad criticism/praise we should be avoiding. Lean into the details and the nuance!
