anyway. a lot of the work a leader does is motivating & coordinating the group led, and everyone in the group agreeing that the "leader is great" is a loadbearing part of that.

Personally I prefer cultures whose leadership theories are more honesty, less puffery, but there's a range.
Smoothing things over, absolutely, but pretending that the stupid doesn't happen is a lot more risky.
