One of the things that always struck me about Hill's Théoden is that few other characters in LOTR talk quite like him. There's a poetry to Théoden's dialogue that in other actor's hands could sound too stilted, too cold–but he delivers with such warmth. An impeccable performance.
I remember my impression from the book was after Wormtongue gets kicked out, Theoden's just one of the good guys now, but Hill played him more complicated than that. His Theoden had deep reservations about following Gandalf's plans, but went ahead anyway.
