Walking out is a blatant Stunt. Apart from the inevitable Trump freakout, the media interest on Dems and the story behind the story could derail Trump's onslaught and break his hold on the narrative, thus giving Dems space to finally go on the offensive. Sitting on hands isn't working.

I really wish I believed a walk out would make a positive difference in the eyes of non-believers, but I don’t. One of the Dems’ biggest PR issues right now is passivity. This feeds right into that. And Republicans will looooove it.

Ditto - you raise valid concerns. Yes, pro-people and pro anti-Trump aren't the same thing, but I think being both is possible.
Dems are in a weak position with a minority in both houses. They have no power in government. How they respond to Trump’s SOTU as it happens is tricky.
