Because the Soviets were really good at propaganda and used it to do some really bad things. And also because calling out a Soviet connection still rings some loud bells for some people.

Also, Soviets or at least what they became with Stalin's guidance are not the same thing as communists.

Liberal values doesn't mean "goodism". LGBT rights, women's rights, minority rights etc are not inherently liberal. What is inherently liberals are the 3 rights expressed by John Locke, life, liberty and private property. I have a problem with private property and I want it abolished.

Simple thought experiment. A bully follows you around and takes away your food by force. The bully doesn't harm you directly, they just take the food away. It's not really YOUR food, because there is no private property. What protects you from starvation?

You can claim that the food is public property, and therefore it is protected, but then you need a community's permission to consume that food, and specifically that food, and not food that was assigned to somebody else, and you just reinvented private property with extra layers of bureaucracy.

I have a problem with liberal economic values, yes, as well as with their utter hypocrisy when it comes to valuing human rights, which they do only when convenient for their economic values. Liberal economic values = hyper-capitalism, which leads to disregard for human rights and outright fascism.

A socialist is not a liberal. It's a fascist tactic to conflate the two to be the same thing. Some liberal ideologies are ok, but they are the left-wing of capitalism. They're the other side of the coin to fascism. A liberal president is still a war criminal looking out for capital interests.
