friendly reminder, it's completely free to go "that isn't for me. I don't get the appeal, but I'm going to keep that shit to myself and move along to enjoy stuff I enjoy instead of shitting on something that makes someone else happy"

Yes, but it's also healthy to be open to good faith criticism of the things you love. You don't have to ultimately agree, but well reasoned criticism isn't the same thing as hating at all.
Here's the thing: did someone ask for criticism or say they were open to it in their space? You can say whatever you want in your own spaces, but unless someone gives that signal, we shouldn't assume that criticism is welcome.
If you step into my living room and start questioning the validity of my choices of furniture or dissecting the lunch being served, I'm not gonna take that as valid criticism. I'm going to think you're a mannerless boor.
Before you start with criticism, always remember you're in someone's mentions.
Same though. I used to whine and bitch loudly, but as I got older, I realized that wasn't very nice. In fact, it was incredibly unkind and I wouldn't want someone to do it to me.
But if everyone doesn’t share their personal opinion how will most people know what they like, since people mostly just follow what other people say? You’re not asking people to form their own opinions about stuff, are you? Insanity!
Yes definitely, tho I have also told an artist "fuck you for making me understand the appeal of this kink, now I can never go back. Your art is amazing, too"
I get being positive about outside items of interest, but I also get being pushed out of previously favored things because said thing moved past appealing to certain demographics.
Won't be the first time and definitely won't be the last, but it's frustrating all the same.
If its something you really dont like as well, there's a "Hide post for me" option on here! Idk if other social medias have that but it is an option here!
i dont know what it says about me psychologically that i need to viscerally imagine everything i'd do to prevent or invalidate the events of some NTR smut that comes across my feed. like that shit makes me MAD mad, and i wish i knew why. no hate to people who enjoy it, but it really does just ...
That’s me with horror media. I don’t like it one bit (with a single digit number of exceptions) and I don’t really get why people enjoy being scared shitless or grossed out, but I know a lot of people do, and that’s valid
Exactly this, I don't like certain games or genres and that's cool because there's plenty out there for everyone to find something, and nothing is for everyone
Same!
I don’t deal well with horror and gorey stuff, but sometimes I can see the appeal of it. Like the movie BrightBurn. Very interesting concept, but the gorey scenes lowkey traumatized me. But my dad loves that kind of stuff, lol.
I don't think that really anyone on the internet goes around randomly trying to make people feel bad about stuff they like though, the "let people enjoy things" is always a saddened reaction to someone shedding a negative light on something
Nah, it's happened to me many times online when I was just expressing enjoyment for a game I liked and literally nothing else. There's such a sense of "you should feel bad for enjoying (completely innocuous and harmless thing)" online, and it's really not healthy for anyone involved.
This! If i see something i don’t like but clearly see it makes someone else happy i ain’t gonna go out of my way to make MY disdain known to them. You come across as an asshole looking for trouble. Just scroll past it.
Thanks for saying this- I have seen super negative comments on artists work, crafters, gamers, etc…. Let people have their joy, we need more of that….if it’s not hurting anyone, leave people alone

Think it's time to tweet Ahmed Best again to offer a drink and an apology. Can't take back what I said, but I can learn and be better.
Could do without the aches and gray though.

can only really count 2 times i unfortunately left a thread of text walls of my thoughts on some poor unsuspecting artists' posts 😭
point being, yeah i really needed to hear your post, thank you
