Writing the first draft is the easy part. Going back to reread and revise is where I have trouble. I’ll get a paragraph or two in and think “who’s the illiterate baboon that wrote this crap?” Then I remember it was me and I walk away. I’m as harsh on myself as Gordon Ramsey is to other chefs.

It's so weird for me because it just depends. My current book, the first draft was easy, and revisions have been a slog. But for others, I've struuuuuggled with the first draft, making it line up, when I can just worry about that later
