I think parody accounts don't work on bluesky because on twitter we were used to constantly being exposed to the worst pieces of shit on the planet but on here we just don't want to see their fucking faces at all

Parody accounts used to piss me off big time on that other platform - no use for them here; we're into hyperreality big time and satire in any form is dead. Imho.
a good parody account also requires "commitment to the bit" and "getting the character voice right" and afaik none of the pretenders here have pulled it off w that skill
IDK, I think the people who don't want to see or think about the same stuff On Here are kind of being a bit pushy to the rest of us who actually just wanted to do exactly the same thing without funding a Nazi.
The problem with parody accounts- and websites and comedy in general- is that society has split into such extremes and fallen into such ridiculous times it's hard to tell what's parody and what's a genuine opinion/actual real life news
Solid point. I also think, in terms of posting, Bluesky has a resistance to looking like you’re trying too hard. And what’s more tryhard than a Parody Account?
The verification process right now (unsure if it will be expanded) is just the domain verification. That's great for like... CNN proving they are CNN or whatever, but I'm not sure it works as well for "notable individuals" who often don't have their own websites.
Yeah but like... I could buy https://keanureeves.com and put up a link tree there that links to his social media but that doesn't mean I'm him. I think it's gonna be bumpy at first.
Web addy site owner use is vetted, meaning, you own the name, you pay for it each year. At one time I had a bunch of websites, a bunch of addresses for which I paid. If there's a billing system in place there's a paper trail. And since nothing is free? Look at people's handles for ownership clues.
Right, but I think the point is that if you spend enough money there’s nothing stopping you from buying https://keanureeves.com even if you are decidedly not the famous Keanu Reeves. So it’s not a foolproof system of verification.
Social media did something weird where like, conservatives in particular became the very thing they got red-faced about when SNL or The Daily Show would skewer them in the 90s and oughts. They disarmed parody by becoming it.
I think it doesn't work cause Twitter is so stuffed full of machine gunned self promotion and brand promotion and "engagement", while bluesky is a place where fuckin nerds are having "actual conversations" and shit
Remember when they posted around 200 names on list for mass reporting our accounts, I can't remember name of domain but I know they tried to sell it to Trump too

do not front me like that!
Here, they feel like twitter missionaries...
plus reality is just really fucking terrible so coming up with worse scenarios is just... difficult and unwanted mostly
Sadly, you probably cannot buy http://keanureev.es which is a much better url but seems to actually be in use.
And yet somehow this place will still be better than the Website Formerly Known As Twitter.
