Wonder how the question was asked? If you ask people if they are happy in their work, most will say "yes" as it is a admission of failure to say "no" (Who keeps on doing a job they dont like?). No wonder that high income jobs are more satisfactory than low income jobs.

I find it exceptionally hard to believe that 77% of lower income people are happy with their jobs. Many studies have shown an exceptionally low level of job satisfaction.

It depends on data source, but I look at many, and it's generally the case that people are surprisingly happy with their jobs. All depends on their boss, of course, but most are decent human beings. https://bit.ly/3Ryx68v

Notice how the most important aspects such as pay and potential opportunities for promotion etc are all very low. The question about relationships at work does a lot of heavy lifting on the overall average of 51. Even this is artificially inflated based on the priority of %'s.

Even this data has an implicit survivor bias. Those who are unsatisfied with their job often seek new ones and may be satisfied temporarily, skewing these statistics.

Additionally I could speculate that those who have moved jobs a lot may become desensitised to poor working conditions and rate their satisfaction higher than they should. Humans are often comparative in nature.

I'd suspect too that higher paying jobs probably have, on average, better overall working conditions with a higher degree of autonomy.

Indeed, of course pay and conditions matter, but many other things matter more. Not sure I understand your criticism here. The chart shows the top 10 variables out of 300+ variables. I didn't choose them, the ML algorithm did, based on which variables best predict job satisfaction in a neural network.

The fact that an algorithm has decided the result is not as reassuring as I think you mean it be. Somebody gives the algorithm a set of rules to open on. It creates the result that was asked of it. What I'm saying is, as someone who has been in the middle and lower quintile, the results here do....

Interesting. You are right in the sense that all data is biased, and the result of the methodologies used to gather it. It's also the case that every individual is different and this kind of statistical exercise only ever describes "the average", in some statistical sense.
