If they win, they will destroy america. None of them can run a city that generates more wealth then most of them combine. If they lose, America will move forward finally. Who would win? The one with allies in other countries.
It will be a nightmare. I agree with you that it will increase tensions and result in governors and city officials resisting any Republican Troops in a blue city/state.
That may be true, but depending on how Trump continues, at some point the USA could collapse and states become their own countries. Which would be her right. For example, if Trump didn't allow real elections.
Unfortunately only violently. I don't care for what purpose, our military shouldn't be doing crazy operations like this and I will fight and die trying to preserve everyone's rights in this country.
I imagine such an order would cause various leaders in the national guard to stall the operation followed by an atrocity or two that stays in the media's memory for years to come. Certainly, the administration will have to be more clever than this.
and then ontop of all of that, you would have to be under the impression that the military (which despite everything we may assume, is decentralized and im willing to bet wouldn't respect trump being a fascist) would readily go along raiding their own infrastructure and citizens (3/3)
even if it came to full on civil war, which i think its really unlikely, it would largely play out the same. you would be pitting america's poorest and less developed states against a richer and more industrialized and more populated ones (2/3)
I think it won't. not for a lack of trying. I think people tend to forget that red states aren't entirely red, some are *cough cough oklahoma* but there is alot of blue interwoven in there. its also a logistical nightmare because of how many people it will actually take to do this (1/2)
David, I've really appreciated your thoughtful YouTube segments on this. You were right to set the stage that you weren't interested in tabloid-esque "civil war" invocations. But it's objectively true that clashes between blue/red-state units could easily trigger something analagous to civil war.
As a Californian, I think it is going to cause a lot of strife within communities. The conservative presence is getting more bold, even in blue areas. I live in a wealthy, rural farming community where we have support for undocumented workers. Other areas have less support and are more conservative
During the last Trump admin, there was a lack of farmworkers across CA. Some fields sat fallow and local crops were more expensive for a few seasons. Some farmers even traveled to S America to recruit workers. But that didn’t last past one or two seasons. I don’t know what will happen this time.
This Blue
State citizen, its governor, senators, representatives, and fellow citizens, including my city's mayor and elected officials, will have plenty to say and do about that. 😠😡🤬
That scenario sounds like a dramatic escalation of fear and rhetoric rather than a realistic possibility. I would hope that the American people, regardless of political affiliation, would come together and firmly reject any such actions.
Red Cities and the red states are going to go full force; Trump will declare a national emergency if allowed and call the National Guard. The blue cities and states that have said NO that is where the conflict will be, everything depends on whether things turn violent.
Pretty much like the movie High Plains Drifter. 71 never fired a gun in my life, but Trump comes from my neighbors. I don’t know. I just might have to buy one.
I choose not to go along with it. Whatever that may entail. Mfs stopping me asking “papers please”, yeah no. No MAGA Gestapo is getting anything from me. I’ll wait till they find out my family has been here over 200 years in a holding cell.
I’m watching here from Denmark 🇩🇰I don’t think it will end very well. I’m so devastated that Trump is elected and I know that the next 4 years will be fearful 😰 Keep up the good work because we need a calm and collected person like you, to get through this nightmare. Please take care America 🇺🇸🙏
Wouldn't it make more sense to just create a fast track to citizenship and give amnesty for living there illegally so the majority of undocumented will just tick that administrative box? I don't understand
Well knowing how "into details" Trump is, there won't be a plan or SOP... I can honestly see deporting a bunch of POC regardless of status and making them try to come back in at the border.
A lot of people who never before bought a gun will get one and use them to defend their neighbors, then the rhetoric will be 'Democrats shouldn't be allowed to own guns'.
There’s talk, with Operation Aurora that Colorado will be targeted. Why not start with Texas, since they have complained the loudest? This approach will hurt industries, so maybe this is more an attack on blue states than really an effort to fix the problem.
With this far-right Supreme Court any challenge wouldn’t even matter. This what they voted for. Actually I’m tired of telling people how horrible he is but still vote for him
The company "Visa" could easily figure this out with a very simple worker verification process. There could be say 4 different levels of residency. R's won't do it because then they couldn't exploit these people, simple as that. Former Ag CFO who had to deal with this mess.
What he doesn’t realize is. The military CAN disobey the POTUS. If the orders are unconstitutional and/or otherwise a human rights violation, the military can just not listen. I vote for the military just circling The White House and keep him in until he can behave/gets impeached and removed.
Not well. Lots of protests from blue cities fueled by frustration. The question is how will Trump handle the protests? Any use of violence against citizens could be very risky.
Yes, why is the Taliban fiasco not focused on the "Deal Maker", Donald Trump? Wasn't Afghanistan growing and doing better until our beloved "Deal Maker" encouraged the Taliban to organize and prepare for his ultimate "Deal"?
Sounds like a logistic nightmare, that would ultimately cost tax payers billions of dollars and hamper agricultural and other sector production while probably not even being that successful
Lots of red tape and a messy situation.
Who is legally in the right?
In the end though, why will blue states continue to support a system that rely on illegal immgrants?
Blue states would rather there be a streamlined legal process for immigrants but guess what, its so backlogged it takes over 10 years in most cases for legal proceedings. The system is broken, we want people here who are just bettering their lives.
The problem isn't 'immigration' - we live in a world where the politics of inclusion vs exclusion is dictated by those who do not live in our communities. But play upon fear of the outsider, and limit allocation of resources? We are made to us act as starving dogs to fight over food scraps.
Yes. Er. I mean, no. I believe in our corporate orthodoxy.
(Are they still watching?)
Really. Billionaires earned every cent fairly.
(They still are, aren't they? Listening and watching..)
It's all fine. I accept my place in this world.
(Still watching? *coughs*)
Security culture.
The system is indeed broken, but as one that working in the agriculture industry in California, it is pathetic how easy it was for workers to come and go. All we had were illegal with fake papers, and if they got caught, they came back later. The system rely on them, and that is wrong.
This is why advocating for legal reform is the answer. If we make it easier for people to come legally this problem goes away and they get a better wage and provide tax revenue. Its the real solution to the problem.
Work Visa is the way forward. But that means Repubicans loose a BIG piece of their strategy to win. They do NOT want to solve the border, we now got 4 more years to see that.
“Work Visa”. I hear this and think it’s good, but I don’t know how it really works. Does anyone have negatives to it that they could help me out with? Is it just a hassle to get it? Is it a poorly run system? I guess I just don’t understand why this isn’t a more widely used program.
I think the crux is that people are relying on systems that pay under the table and below minimum wage. Perhaps if the farm and company owners wanted to pay a fair wage and address safety concerns they could get other workers who had legal documentation 🤔
Exactly plus big agriculture gets tons of subsidies.
And I'm fine paying a small tax to help ensure our domestic food sources are secure as long as we have a humanitarian friendly labor force that respects those willing to do the work
For that our government could help, by working to lower the cost of living. The worst expense on that is rent.
We could learn from Finland and Austria and build government housing people want to live in. Community gardening as in Denver, that serves thousands with free food and much more.
It is a joke to say liberal cities run on them, when it is the industries that are owned and run by Republicans they flock to for work. Hotel/Motel/Resorts, farming, gardening, factories, constructions. All those owners are Republicans, and they rely on illegal immigrants.
The whole country relies on immigrants - the border bill was a step in the right direction but these plans of terror and mayhem are not good for the country =Trump is not good for the country
If the illegal immigrant is trying to obtain a Visa and work permit. And citizenship that’s not our place to say anything. and explain why legally due to war in their country, domestic violence, etc.
I think blue states may need to secede tbh. The Supreme Court is compromised. All this talk about fighting back with the law is pointless when the highest court in the land is on the side of fascism.
Probably wouldn't be long until some blocks come from courts. At that point if they keep going it becomes tricky to predict. My guess is that the military will want to avoid fighting people while there's a court process going, but we'll see I guess.
Blue states can just keep their money and not pay the federal government as blue states pay for red states. Except Texas and Florida when they have to pay for all of USA seems stock market crashes Trump is screwed.
Not good but he don’t care. So has he figured out who is going to replace these people. I mean who is going to harvest the national crop or those in healthcare, food industry, hospitality.
Let's take this down to a more local level. If the troops will be going door-to-door (as has been mentioned) will they be knocking on the doors of registered Republicans? That'll be popular...not
I say IF Czar tries to mass destruction. There would need to me a class action lawsuit. For those legal immigrants that are here to stay and being forced out do to nothing but racism would need to sue.
It won't, the orders will not be lawful or constitutional. On top of that, theres simply not enough personnel between the national guard, dhs, and ice to carry out deportations on that scale.
Would be a shame if our president was immune from criminal prosecution while performing in an official capacity as commander in chief. The supreme court definitely thought that decision through, no way is it abusable
I agree that it is ridiculous. But remember that just because the president has immunity, doesn't mean his cabinet or anyone in the military does for their actions.
He'll point to protests (whether existent or not) against his policies as needing intervention. "Protesters" will be detained and included in the statistic of "illegals" arrested and deported. Giving credence to the program
Doesn't the man child realise that sending Hispanics back home will leave all those jobs they did vacant!!!!
How many MAGAns will want to pick fruit etc?
None. Non-redhats are the ones who'll be the new labor force once they're designated enemy combatants. Can't be illegal if the Supreme Court and Congress says you can. *taps head*
I certainly hope there is no violence. However, we have our own "Blue Wall" here on the west coast. WA, OR, and CA have a combined 40,000 National Guard troops that often train together. We have mountain ranges you must cross to get to all major coastal cities, so good luck even getting to us.
A future of potential civil unrest and violence was hard baked into the Constitution through inequalities resulting from compromise with slave states, inequalities that were not resolved by the Civil War.
What about all that state's rights crap they spewed? I'm sick to death of people forcing their religion and lifestyle on others. Half of us didn't vote for this but here we are.
*What I'm curious about is:* is it "safer" for a #bluedotredstate person to remain in the red state? Or give into that desperate desire to be with likeminded and loving people in a blue state?
It sounds like the plot of a dystopian thriller, but Trump will no doubt try to do it...and the reality will be chaos. National Guard units are made up of everyday Americans—teachers, firefighters, neighbors. Turning them into political weapons? Good luck holding a country together after that.

On a serious note, half of the people who voted in the presidential election will cheer. Everyone else will be horrified.
State citizen, its governor, senators, representatives, and fellow citizens, including my city's mayor and elected officials, will have plenty to say and do about that. 😠😡🤬
Can not afford to leave country. Boss is up to moving to Blue State, finally! I suggested it last year!
Nah. You’re right. They have no actual principles.
I see them marching up to the border and laying down arms.
Who is legally in the right?

Exciting hypothetical!
Maybe is the catalyst that the USA needs to change course positively.
How many MAGAns will want to pick fruit etc?
If the US military gives up on American values, that's the last line.
Record the unit and its members.
When the dust settles and “day one dictator” is gone, start holding people accountable down to the individual guardsman.
Not retribution, but accountability.
