I’m gonna shock you now.
4 points out of a playoff spot, if December goes well the rest of the month, the Habs are more likely to trade for a 2C to strengthen than they are to unload vets for picks.
They have a roster need right now, and that need isn’t more 3rd/4th round picks.
They need a 2C.

Thats all.
But I present
Cup winning Sam Bennett
Philip Danault
Jack Eichel
Ryan O’Reilly
Dylan Strome
Mika Zibanejad
Darn successful with new team.
Not easy to do but these are UFA/trades.
It can be done.
If he wants to go public he will.
NSH might be, but 2C is exactly the thing they're missing themselves.
No lines were said.
Some of the discourse frankly is insulting. Assume intelligence instead.
I really hope next year, Kent Hughes says he will be satisfied with 6 wins.
You can basically do this ….
Go see the 2C and note the spot in the standings.
Almost to all teams, great 1C and 2C teams are high in standings, teams lacking are low in standings.
But if they’re doing well, they’re gonna plan for wins this year.
No way they’re sending a message in February 4 points out of the playoffs, better luck next year
He himself would want to wait for his own clarity.
30yrs old....
hmmmmm
could he be had?
Two types
- star 2 way 1C controls game does afford a 2C that handles D well and is certainly not a star.
- 2 equal 1C.
So if we can’t call Suzuki a star then he needs an equal.
If we call Suzuki Barkov then Bennett type works
But generally speaking, the model seems to be from my research that if the 1C is not a star, the 2C has to have his own giddy up.
But let’s be clear, it’s all theoretical.
I’m just looking at the 1C cup winners. Only ROR recently isn’t the star type.
Brayden Schenn also a 200 foot middle of the ice winner.
So yeah, it has worked.
But more popular way is that star C.
But maybe Suzuki is that if he ever had someone to take some hard minutes for him.
He’s the example I cited. Others are Chandler Stevenson supporting Eichel, Cirelli supporting Point.
Solid middle winning C not quantified as stars supporting the point producing star.
Because the logical 2C coming is Hage.
In 3-4 years, it should be something like
Suzuki
Hage
Beck
Evans (or someone else)
Didn’t get a WJC invite. Went 21 overall.
Nice college freshman season but collectively people are way ahead of their skis on this player.
But its not unreasonable to project 1st rounders.
As for the WJHC, Team Canada really weighs CHL players over US college and Hage is only 18...
I get it.
I earn my living doing historical and mathematical perspectives.
No, he doesn't help now.
That's what Hughes is still cleaning up from (Armia, Anderson, Gallagher to an extent...).
Possibly the best C the Habs have drafted/developed in my lifetime was Koivu...drafted #21.
Hage in top 10 ppg as a freshman in D1 doesn't say quality prospect and potential 2C.
I am saying people are ahead on their skis acting like he’s a lock.
Considering where 21st usually lands and not getting a WJC look draft plus 1 puts him historically at a 50-50 shot here not 90-10 realm.
1. What this group can do for the rest of the season (and if Dach can finally get it together)
2. What assets they have in hands (i.e. CGY/FLA pick) and where (who) they will draft.
They remain intact.
We are still in "discovery" mode with our prospects. No need to give up assets to adress the 2c issue until management knows what they have with Dach. The habs are not in the same situation of any of the teams you mention.
I know we've been saying lets give Dach a chance.....so let's do that first.
Really depends on their belief that Dach or Hage can fill that role in time I guess.
Dach-Malkin-Laine
Then when Demidov arrives, the 3rd line becomes:
Roy-Dach-Newhook (who many thought were going to be the 2nd line this year). Demidov goes into the top 6 with Malkin, making his transition easier.
Not sure many of the assets the Habs have would fetch a 1B, and you can entertain Demidov playing center or Michael Hage or whoever they draft in 2025.
So would it be worth it?
You have Davidson who was drafted as a center in Laval doing well 🤔
They do need a shutdown D for sure but the future has options. They didn’t pick D at 5 in 2023 to discard the man.
The biggest weakness now and for the future is C.
D just has so many options, I literally can’t figure out who is getting into people’s heads on this. It’s folly compared to the dearth organizationally at 2C hopes.
I’m sorry I just don’t like this argument. I think it’s faulty. It has wings somewhere somehow but I think it’s not logical vs need for 2C.
Matheson will eventually be phased out, and Savard is barely holding on at the moment.
A D squad of Hutson, Guhle, Reinbacher is too young.
