This is actually using the Game Animation Sample Motion Matching stuff.

I’m just using it as temp for now. Motion Matching seems pretty daunting to learn in 2 weeks. Lol

Ah, I understand. Yeah, it's usually best to roll with assets if you can unless you have someone who really just wants to cook with them. Animation wise would definitely be a trip to the marketplace for me. It looks good though, really nice block out work.

You could probably take the animation assets from the Epic Motion Matching project and repurpose them into state machines.

Thank you! Still needs a lot of work. The end is pretty bare, but having a lot of fun just playing.

If you are already having fun playing at this stage, it bodes well for the project. What theme are you going for? I noticed you were sneaking past that one npc, sort of like a stealth game play loop?

GASP and ALS V3 seem to be the current standards for realistic motion, it seems. But you can use any free animations from Mixamo and several other places with Motion Matching. It's largely unglamorous database building tbh. 5.5 update introduced a hybrid state machine version of it as well.

Yeah, I’ve been trying to wrap my head around it since the first GASP, and I don’t think I’m really any further along. Heck, even getting state machine stuff to work is confusing. I think I figure it out, and then I realize I don’t know anything. Lol.

But I’m still having fun and pushing forward.

Same! Creating a working character controller has been the hardest part for me! No wonder I see so many devs skip right to environments and levels! Working characters are hard, especially for a shooter that needs separate animations for torso and legs 😭

Yeah! Mixamo came to mind. I am doing some research into the Rokoko stuff. I personally like the little gloves they have, but I am probably going to use a mixture of those resources as well. Epic marketplace has some great packs too.
