I also don’t think you can trust most mainstream publications—like say, those owned by billionaires who sat front row at the inauguration—to report on this hellscape with the urgency and language it deserves.

It's a head-on collision between the increasingly fantastical notion of journalistic neutrality and the objective heinousness of the administration's activities. Simply reporting the facts means reporting the heinousness.

I hate clicking "like" on this, but thank you for posting it. NPR's reporters were pretty clear this morning that we'd just sent those people to El Salvador without any kind of due process, and how not-ordinary that is, but still, it seems like an awfully tame reaction.

The closest is this, which is still wildly off base. Presumably the reporter is capable of reading the court order themselves, using their eyes and ears to figure out whether or not the admin complied, and saying so. Instead, we get stenography of the administration going "Nuh uh" and call it news.

It's unclear whether the Venezuelan deportees had been convicted of any crime, though Trump CLAIMS they were gang members. If America no longer recognizes due process, this means the American people can treat their leaders how their leaders treat them, in my eyes. Take care out there, & stay sane.
