Just emptied the leftovers from the refrigerator. Felt like about 5lbs of food when I carried it to the trash. I can feel the eyes of my Irish mother staring up at me, from whatever corner of hell she ended up in, with extreme disapproval. Wasted food, ughhhh. I have issues.

She said it was because my Dad was a "Depression Baby": they don't throw food away. EVER.
My Mom would also give us the "starving children" line.
My sister would mutter "I sure wish she would just send it to them..."
Eat your peas Paul!!
I don't want to waste food, but come on...
Like....why did that animal die in vain? I mean...it was already dead in the cooling display at the Aldi's so I doubt it cares but...I still hate throwing spoiled meat away.
But, when I get home I have no appetite.
I just want to watch a few things and sleep.
I have a very cute Mother Possum out in the woods who loves it when I clean out the fridge.
It's a veritable marsupial banquet and one time she came to dine with all her joeys hanging on both sides.
No more guilt for me.
My girls see my spouse coming with the bucket and it’s “Pops has the slops!”.
She tells me in a very sad tone "they're so hungry"
Me: 🤨
My mom in a kid-who-has-discovered-the-coolest-thing tone "have u ever seen a vulture eat cool whip!?"
Me: 🤦♀️
It's the food waste thing. Only she side steps the "spoiled food goes in the trash" and gives it to the "starving" animals. 😅
It makes her happy... and I get baseball player lvl stats on everything from armadillos to wild iguanas.

Having containers ready to send meal leftovers when family comes to eat--also a hack.
Your mother blesses ❤️ you.
Besides, how long can you be expected to eat the same leftover, day after day 🤪
Play the drums too loud, sin.
Watch too much TV, sin.
Drink, sin.
Don't drink at the right time, sin.
Get mad, sin.
Don't get mad at the right thing, sin.
On and on.....
My wife does this. ALL leftovers go to the fridge to age into bioweapons.
I clean it out every Friday and let the chickens feast.
Sometimes I find things that cannot be unseen.
I'm so sorry you experienced them like that.
My own mother had other methods of punishing us for her wartime deprivations.
same
(Disclaimer: I don’t think all old people are horrid. I am a delight! 🤷🏽♀️😀)
Tomorrow, for example, I don't have to cook ,we will have delicious frozen leftover 😋
I've set up a worm bin this year, and I plan on selling worms for fishing (lots of recreational fishermen around here), in addition to harvesting the compost and castings for the garden.
If I were in warmer climates, black soldier fly composting is what my focus would be, instead of worms.
No, they weren't. They weren't.
