It really doesn't matter...don't you all understand that if you worked for the private sector you could be fired even if you had glowing performance reviews. I saw many people be "downsized" when they had great reviews at the company I worked for years. - ThreadSky

Fired for cause or poor performance vs laid off makes a huge difference in one’s ability to secure unemployment. These scumbags have to “fire” them because they don’t want them to qualify for unemployment. Disgusting.

Yes. However there are union protections. Even for probationary employees and the standard everyone is citing is correct.
Probationary employees are easier to fire, but the reason must be sound and truthfulish. You can't fire a probation employees who has great reviews for performance.

We have learned that the way fed agencies use the word probation is different meaning, meaning trial, sometimes outstanding employees earned promotions, causing them to be categorized as probationary. Dogebags were just entirely stupid hacks….illegally hacking and whacking at people and programs.

I worked in administration at a large private university and we had the same policy. Probationary periods were mandatory for all new staff. Had zero to do with performance. It was 90 days before you became a regular employee. These scumbags have never had a real job so how would they know?
