LOl, I used to be able to take one of those paper maps, a compass, and land nav my way 10 KM through the jungle or across an unmarked desert to arrive within 10 meters of my objective. And there are hundreds of thousands of men and women who can still do that thanks to Uncle Sam.

I have a coworker who can navigate the whole of Chicago city without GPS. He can even tell you what shops or offices are located on each intersection. His navigational skills is just phenomenal. Back in Europe I knew another fellow who could navigate the Sahara desert by using the stars.
