I'm not 100% familiar with US salaries, but even though they used the average for the salary instead of the median, $91k is pretty low, no?

It's an absolute minimum, a genuine household should haven ~200-300k depending where someone lives.

The federal pay system includes area cost of living adjustments and in places like DC you can see people getting higher pay just because of that.
Private sector equivalent jobs usually pay much more, the trade off is supposed to be job stability

Not really. There's a lot of variance by sector and seniority. Government employees tend to make more for low-education work but less for high-education work. And they tend to have good benefits and retirement.

It’s so place specific. $91k for LA area is very low. South Dakota, probably decent. All these graphs are one big Simpson’s Paradox.
