In 1999, I was mostly listening to Gomez, Dandy Warhols, the Manics, Radiohead, and getting into U2 in a big way. Then it was Muse, Coldplay and JJ72 and properly discovering the Pumpkins.

The bottom two definitely IMO. I remember hearing Ys in a friend's car once and really not getting it. Never heard Yellow House! That was a far better era than mine.

Ys is probably the best of the lot. It's an acquired taste and I definitely wasn't big on it when it came out, but when I revisited it recently it really hit. Yellow House is phenomenal, definitely recommend it. I do wonder sometimes if it's just nostalgia but it genuinely was a very strong period.

Yes it was, there's always the odd exception but it's no surprise that The Strokes et al made such an impact when they came along.
