really wasnt expecting to vibe with this set as much as i am. the blue shell card is a sin though (im fine with mechanically paying homage but it doesnt need to literally be a blue spiky turtle, cmon)
i dont like it being a turtle in the first place, personally. its too direct of a "hey look its the thing and it does the thing" for me. if it was like a guidelight voyagers drone or smth with the same effect id like it a lot more
This set is what did it for me, i can’t take it anymore, it’s the straw that broke the back of the camel whom endured both war of the spark and march of the machines :(
This set so badly feels like it was a really really good mad max UB set that lost licensing deals, and due to how production works I know that's not true. But it feels like it. Idk why but it just. Feels not magic? I'm actually really curious why I feel that way.
Because like. Duskmorn, even the tech still felt magic to me. This is no more high tech than stuff we already had. This is no more modern inspired than things we've already had, like ikoria being Godzilla/Kaiju based. Why does this feel different to me? I actually can't place it.
Maybe it's the oil? The tech we've had before has all had a spiritual glint to it, or been mag-tech, these vehicles feel like just real motorbikes that would use gas instead of ectoplasm. Maybe that's the issue? Not sure though. Still. Neat flavor text on a lot of cards.
It is the first spoiler season I've been following since Bloomburrow (because I love insects and my kid loves cars), and I must confess that I'm really not vibing with this set.
Also, probably all the cool insects will probably be on the final day draft chaff dump
