I also avoid going to the east... I don't have relatives there, so it's easy to avoid. I find it strange: why do people formerly oppressed by a communist regime vote Nazis?

Sad, bc here regions were growing together again!

That's not seldom, they come from dictatorship and some feel the need to have one again.
Plus: they had no political educaction on the curriculum after the reunification and their experience of the years before.

You are right, that may explain it a bit..... My problem is that I'm still at a total loss of why anyone in their right mind might even want to vote for the Nazi 💩🤷.

It seems to be easier to vote for a party with a democratic coat of paint, no matter how its core is.
And then there's a growing lack of scepticism about what's said, like in a cult, and a low level of education beneath their supporters.
