The only people a boycott of KU is going to hurt are the authors. KU's income makes up a TINY bit of Amazon's income (and Bezos only owns like 8% of the company). Yes, the payouts suck. But for ppl like me, it's how I pay my bills and feed my family.

There are alternatives - and yes, the only income I currently have is from my books. There’s Kobo Plus, there are library loans via Libby, there’s Patreon/Substack. Amazon as a company is evil - they’ve removed their diversity policies, just one example, and actively support a fascist.

I agree with you. In a perfect world, I'd pull my books from KU ASAP. But it currently makes up 70% of my income (down from 80%). I'm doing my best to devest. But it doesn't happen overnight and a blanket boycott still only hurts smaller creators like me. That effort is better put elsewhere.

I’m in the process of removing my books from KU, and will never go back. Also, as somebody who knows finance, putting one’s eggs into one basket is risky as hell. Audio, translations, merchandise, patreon etc are good diversification strategies.
