If we have a normal, constitutional election in 2028, I think Democrats are absolutely making a huge mistake if they don't nominate someone who speaks Spanish

There are 22 Republican seats up next year. Democrats would have to win 20 of them to produce a Senate supermajority. They could afford to lose just Wyoming and West Virginia.
In my lifetime, all the Democratic candidates who were new to DC, or had never been in DC, absolutely crushed it, and all the Democratic candidates who had been in DC a while were total flops.
💯. Somebody had a well known piece about this a while back. I forget what the specific year was, but it was basically if you pass year (let’s call it 6) in the national media / congress, you’re spent.
I think that both of these people have pretty lackluster politics anyways but it’s crazy to me that people see “nominate Shapiro” as the electability option and not “nominate Gallego”
Not just nominate, they need to roll deep with a Spanish-speaking staff that does Spanish-speaking organizing & messaging with $100M warchest. It should be a whole additional campaign.
I just had a conversation with a lady from Ecuador, not a Trump supporter but she repeated the same story about "recent immigrants" having an easier time than her when coming into the US. YES the Democratic party needs to increase dramatically it's messagingin spanish.
She did not vote for Trump or at least that's what she told me. Regarding the previous question, some of my family members changed their mind because they trusted me and allowed me to explain/debunk what they often watch on instagram and tiktok.
That's why the question was not
"If" but "how long"
Why not "pressure on the existing Spanish-language outlets" if we recognize that it is more effective from "the people we already know"?
This is what Hispanic GOP is relying on.
Why not the churches? Ditto.
I agree with this.
How long could it take? I dont know but if people are starting to feel voters remorse then they might be more suceptible now, not so different from people who get scammed by influencers, yes some dont escape the cult but other will hate it for the rest of their lives.
This i think only work for people who are not fully into the maga cult. For those who are the only thing i can see working is "touching the stove" basically they will have to suffer the effect of Trump policies in their lives.
Republicans use different narratives in spanish to target the Hispanic population.
Many latinos feel it is unfair that recent immigrant and refuges got a lot of aid while they are struggling. Others are afraid of anything that smells like comunism because they escaped from Cuba or Venezuela.
If the Democratic party wants to keeps it's grip in states like new york and maybe get a shot at states like Florida or Texas they need the communicate with the hispanic population and find ways to disrupt republican propaganda. I hear this shit even from my own family!!!
I realized a while ago that insisting anyone who crosses the border should be granted asylum is an absolute political loser. I know people who've been here for a over decade & resent the idea someone more recent is getting legal status.
I think that language per se doesn't make a lot of difference, understanding culture, why not? I was watching some ads by the Pink Tide candidate in Ecuador(Luiza Gonzáles) and the feeling is that precisely the ad that Democrats want to ran, but never do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrFNWx7h6r0
VERY DISTURBING! Axios reports Democrats are divided in dealing with Trump/MUSK/GOP. Please, get your act together! This is no time to be confusing voters. You are for the CONSTITUTION, the RULE OF LAW, FACTS, SCIENCE & INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. You've got to keep it simple to win. https://tinyurl.com/vzhxvkr4

We have to impeach/remove the tumor before we can cure the cancer.
That’s not happening, unfortunately.
That said, you also get 90% of the way there if you just nominate someone who can say it in English.

Please tell us how your ability to speak Spanish cured your family from MAGA rot.
How many conversations did it take?
One? Two?
A month?
"Anyone who crosses the border is/should be granted asylum"
is an absolute lie.

States hold their own elections. Trump couldn’t stop them even if he was able to tie his shoes, which he clearly isn’t anymore
I have no doubt there will be shenanigans and tomfoolery surrounding elections in the future, but that’s hardly new
I believe there’s enough people like me that any concerted effort to have fake elections won’t be successful in the states that actually matter
