I always interpreted that as "DSA memberships will stop declining and radical left policies like the Green New Deal will be debated within the Dem party." Either way still totally misread the dynamics of Trump winning in 2017 vs 2025.

In 2017 the left and liberals had a mostly unified view of what happened - Obama had been too modest with policy following the GFC, and struggling working class people found appeal in Trump as a "protest vote" or as a vehicle of racist grievance. The solution was a move in the Bernie direction.

Whether it was 70% or 99%, there was alignment.

But in 2025, it's absurd to say "Biden was too modest on policy," and voters are still voting for fucking Trump, so he's not just a vehicle for "failed neoliberalism" or whatever.

A Kamala loss was never gonna cause a surge of leftist enthusiasm.

If we're lucky we'll get a party that's basically the 2012 policy platform but younger and feistier. If we're unlucky we'll get, like, Keir Starmerism.

But the 2020 platform is going to be the most left-wing version of the Dem party for a LONG time.
