I doubt many people paid for their lobotomies even when it was a common procedure.
I'm talking about things like LASIK eye surgery, knee & hip replacements & bariatric surgery that were rare & expensive when introduced but are now quite common.
2/2. LNP removed these item numbers. This meant every patient although already treated by the nurse also had to wait and see the GP just so the practice could be paid for the procedure already undertaken by the Nurse.
1/2. There was a time when Nurses in general practice had some autonomy whereby we could provide services without the patient seeing a GP and bill Medicare. Such things as wound care, vaccinations, pap smears.
