Trump officials blaming Zelenskyy for bringing up security guarantees because they say those would negotiated those later. But how would he negotiate those if he'd signed away his leverage with the mineral deal? And they call themselves deal makers?

The simplistic MAGA anti-Ukraine axis wilfully ignores a basic concept: deterrence profile. It's vital for any SUSTAINED truce as Ukrainian security depends on deterring Russian attack. No leader of Ukraine can indulge such shortsighted ignorance on national security but Trumpists in US are happy to
I am not sure why we are still pretending that security guarantees with the US are worth anything? We are going to have to face the fact that we have NO CHOICE but to defend ourselves, and that is going to mean a lot of sacrifices by the public.
You were so in a hurry to make a clever comment that you entirely misunderstood Phil's post and the nature of what he is talking about!
It's not about any Trump "lies"; it's about Trump trying to maneuver Zelenskyy to make his concessions early, before Z. can even ask for something in return
Hey Phil: Anyone who can con his counter-party into handing over his concessions early, before that counter-party even has a chance to ask for concessions in return, is a master deal-maker in my book!
The needle Europe needs to thread, is to firstly rally behind Ukraine, but secondly delegate Starmer or Meloni (the two leaders Trump hates the least) to persuade him that JD Vance is the one who humiliated him and that the answer is to send Vance to Eastern Ukraine on a "fact finding mission".
So why does your suggestion of a Vance "fact finding mission" [sic; that's "fact-finding"] make absolutely no sense? What is that supposed to accomplish?
If something is in quote marks, one cannot assume grammatical error. Trump doesn't understand hyphenation so we wouldn't confuse him with it.
The purpose is to drive a wedge between Trump and the most dangerous of those pulling his strings, under the guise of creating room for further peace talks.
Trump is very easily gaslit if you stroke his ego. Everyone intelligent knows this, that's why Starmer had been able to build a rapport despite the political gulf.
Anyone on his own side who realises it, is able to exert substantial power if unchecked.
'...the Trilateral Statement...Ukraine agreed to transfer the nuclear warheads to Russia for elimination. In return, Ukraine received security assurances from the United States, Russia and Britain...'
Trump wants money, of which Ukraine has plenty under the ground. Rare earth minerals are useful for electronics & transport manufacturing. But their oil & gas reserves & pipelines are more his buddy Koch’s style.
And Trump would love a war in the next 3 years to avoid being thrown out of office.😉
Don’t think the “deal” was supposed to be acceptable. Trump is looking for an excuse to drop support and letting Russia take Ukraine. Deal was tempting enough to seem genuine, and when Zelenskyy turned up to negotiate further they switched to plan B
There was never going to be a deal. Trump wanted the visual of berating Zelensky and then throwing him out of the WH, giving the illusion that Zelensky somehow did something wrong.
It was another reality TV show scene. He’s running the USA by stunts.
Here's the Phase One trade deal Trump concluded with China in 2020, just for your enlightenment;
Do you need additional links e.g. about the USMCA NAFTA follow-up trade deal he negotiated with Mexico/Canada, or are you convinced alrdy that you are quite wrong? https://ustr.gov/phase-one
trump is the worst negotiator in the world. What does is called extortion. Zelenskyy never had a chance, because trump was never going to continue aid to Ukraine. He’s in the tank for Putin, obviously, so it’s delusional to think he would deal fairly with Ukraine.

...and speaking of security! 😳😳😳

My point is that Trump does not negotiate based on an appreciation of other's interests.
He lies and applies emotional pressure.
Of course I am glad Trump did not succeed ...

(surveying the Bsky room) Anyone ELSE here actually believe that?

Incidentally if the King gives Zelensky a gift, as is customary, I hope its pocket aces.

'In a week or so, we will meet again to negotiate the price!'
Didn't think so!

Post was about deal with Zelensky; you ignorantly claimed Trump cannot make deals; I set you straight.
You're welcome
