I'm very curious how the recent amazon bs plays out with books that are stated to be provided DRM free by request of the publisher and author. I don't seem to be able to get a DRM free copy anymore through any existing option. Does one even exist now? Are there any legal implications if one doesn't?

Been going back to physical media and one times purchases if I can get away with it.

Unfortunately a whole lot of the things I like doesn't get released in the EU. And streaming services aren't really going to release their shows for purchase. See fx. this complaint from director Mike Flanagan.

you're welcome! one note I'll add to that is if you currently have kindle reader on your pc you should not only uninstall it before trying this but deregister that computer through amazon's site (it's under content and devices). otherwise some files may not work correctly

I refuse to purchase a digital movie, tv show, etc, unless I physically own that copy, outright, in perpetuity (not just 'renting a license' until the TOS changes).

The pitch of "unburdening" us by managing our digital libraries and gating access for a monthly fee just doesn't land for me.

I've been buying digital music for decades. Why? I can download it and do whatever I want with the files!

I don't see much of an option for movies. Hence why I was ripping a Blu-ray I bought to my own server yesterday. I don't mind some stuff "going away" if I treat it like TV, but if I buy it?

Plus dealing with things like uploading my music to Google and them "updating" my music files with "better sounding" ones. Oh, they swapped out the tracks for censored versions. Or with DIFFERENT versions from other albums. Zero. Trust.

It'd be nice if every single person didn't need to do this. How much money and power and resources does it take to make billions of personal libraries? But, I just don't trust for profit companies to do it for me.
