I don't think that was ever on the cards tbh. Even if they'd done that there'd have been a million posts about how they made the mistake to begin with or couldn't be bothered asking a trans woman/were libs/not to be trusted.

Yeah but that's pessimistic. I think there's a best case scenario where they remained active on bluesky and just ignored any persistent haters. I think it's a shame they didn't really seem to aim for that

I reject this premise, not because everything said here was good, but because the 'Lemkin Institute' is not a serious org, it's basically just a few people who sell tote bags and trade on the name of a dead man they have no connection to to trick people into thinking their posts carry some weight

I used to see far too many trans people falling back on this glorified blog as a substitute for genuine allies, and convincing no one because no one knows or cares what the Lemkin Institute is, and if they won't be doing that anymore then that's a win long-term regardless of anything else

I don't see how this addresses any of my points vis a vis flawed allyship. regardless of who or what is saying it. I would much rather have people saying there's a genocide happening on a flawed theoretical basis than not at all.

I've worked with lots of serious NGOs too. They may not have much resources but they do more than write unsourced blog posts, they don't steal famous people's names for unearned credibility, and they don't get into fights and post passive-aggressive comments on Bluesky under their official accounts

What I'm getting at is social media dogpiles are very bad, but also that this one happened because a lot of trans people have somehow been misled into thinking they're an org with global reach and that this is like yelling at, idk, the Human Rights Campaign and not at a rando with 20 followers
