@gracehill.bsky.social Yeah, I remember when they were setting up AO3, and from the start, they wanted the software to be based on something that was easy for newbies to code on. I think they decided on Ruby-On-Rails in the end.
@gracehill.bsky.social They had two different web frameworks they were considering, and they set up tests/surveys to ask people which one they found easier - so, yes, they were absolutely committed to encouraging newbie coders from the start.
@gracehill.bsky.social And now I realise I could be completely wrong, and confusing the AO3 software with the Dreamwidth software -- they were both started around the same time.
