Another tip: you can delay delivery for however many days you want if you’re not ready for the book! Give others a chance to borrow it if ready.

Libby charges the library per checkout (usually; the City's contract may be different but this is the standing contract), so it helps keep costs in line for WPL.

They are only so many copies of each book. You are assigned the book when your turn comes up. I have been using Libby for years, always have 5 or so on hold. Hard to read a series or a new best bestseller when your current book is done

It it says Borrow when you find a book you want it is available now. Otherwise place it on Hold. They message you when it is available

You can also use your Winnipeg library card to "borrow" movies on Hoopla and Kanopy. Just finished watching "Ronin" on Hoopla.

I can't remember who told me about Kanopy - was another Winnipegger on BlueSky. I watched Seven Samurai there a few days ago, so it should eventually work for you.
