imo headcanon and au can be a very blurred line and often headcanons become au. “i think this character has sharp teeth!” can very easily transition into “ok they’re a vampire”
i just said headcanon because it’s more encompassing (to me) than just au ^_^

the definition/leniency of the term “headcanon” may very well have changed over the years, i actually might try to do some research on that now. thank u for making me think on this

hmm i think a better definition of hcs are imaginations about a character's opinions/relationships w/ other characters/personality traits; etc, that don't appear/not talked about in canon. The idea that hcs cannot contradict what's alr there is vry old-fashioned and restrictive ngl.
