2/The vessel, which was carrying oil from 🇷🇺Russia to 🇪🇬Egypt, is suspected of deliberately cutting communications. One of its anchors was torn off and appears to have been damaged.
and spilling all the oil on their own coasts? Nah.
seize the ship
detain the crew or put them to a firing squad since that's an act of war from irregular troops
sell the oil, sell the tanker, share the money with Ukraine.
I dunno. The crew are probably underpaid people from a poor country.
Officers, and more specifically, the pilot, who is put on board only for coastal passages in confined waters?
That's another story.
Oh even if they're aware of what happens, they're poor asses for sure. I wouldn't even bet on the officers wealth. but IIRC that's the fate of illegal warriors during a war. At best for them, prison, depending the prison...
Offering them money in exchange of information could be a good bargain
Sink it.
Every ship that hits cable, capture it, sink it and file a lawsuit against the company and get the ability to impound any new ones that show up
It's in Europe. That's where Finland is.
The Russian shadow fleet is a thing. Flags of convenience, crews in conditions of near slavery. The EU is upset about it. There's a report from this year:
I am well aware that it is in Europe, that is where the oil should be sold, probably to Germany. Then you should be given to the Ukrainians for kaboom at the Kerch bridge
Russia proxies bought all the oldest tankers they could find most were destined to the scrap yard I doubt most of them have seaworthy certificates hence all the problems
He does not have that many tankers. And it will certainly accomplish a great deal.
This is ruzzi oil. It is sold. The new owner now does not take delivery and wants a refund. Ruzzi loses both oil and income. (And tanker). A significant hit for a troubled economy.
Problem is, they detained the first tanker that did this, and he went right ahead and did it again. I didn’t mean to say they ought to let the tankers go - just that holding them is insufficient to stop the behavior.
Well, the last one (chinese) was let go. This one is likely seized. That will give everyone some pause for reflection. Note how this time no permission was even requested for boarding?
It’s a heavier approach then what we saw with the Chinese one.
The rustbucket is under the jurisdiction of Finland now. It doesn't comply with the local or EU laws. It breaks the US sanctions on which we have international agreements. Likewise, it breaks many international maritime laws. Can't legally let it sail a meter in Finnish waters. Sorry for your loss.
Once jail them i Finland, then in Estonia, both times with terrorism enhancement.
Sell the ship and cargo for repair cost, plus charge the owners for any other costs.
The Chinese tanker was under Chinese flag means you need Chinese gov permission to board it
The ship Finland just arrested was under cook Inslands flag so they needed NZ permission which seems to have been given immediately
#CookIslands are registering a lot of the #ShadowFleet of Russia, old and poorly maintained. The #EU could impose sanctions for that or ban all its registered vessels from EU ports and waters.
If the captains are too stupid to weigh anchor these days, it might be time for NATO to stop maritime traffic to and from 🇷🇺 in the Baltic Sea. I would give 🇷🇺 a clear warning. If it still doesn't stop, then follow up the threat with action. It's only a few nautical miles that will surely hurt the 🇷🇺

What say the weird orange American?
Maybe that will stop this nonsense.
