yeah Getter is flat out a cosmic horror story, and regular thing in Mazinger is that there really is only like a hair's difference between Juuzo Kabuto and Doctor Hell. they both arguably "deconstruct" the stereotypical super robot anime far more than EVA even thinks of.

I watched the OG Gundam movies a few years back having never seen the series. It blew my fucking mind how Amuro is untrained, thrown into war, and ends up with PTSD immediately.

I used to be such an Eva hater, but after watching it later in life it was so much more enriching to see it after I’d seen Gundam and other real robot shows. Gunbuster is a lot more of a straightforward power fantasy than Eva or Gundam and even then Noriko is still regularly subjected to The Horrors and the story becomes more about the ravages of time and distance and how that changes people and their relationships.
