Let me give you the best thing I've learned in MMA/street fighting classes.
Everyone knows 'run away', if not you do now. Don't get into close combat sitches if you can avoid it. Sometimes you can't.
Okay here's the best thing that you may very well use in your life.
Someone has grabbed your arm!

Dead weight is a bitch.
Now, break the hold by GOING THE DIRECTION OF THE THUMB.
A child can break the hold of an adult with this method.
But towards the thumb is MUCH weaker.
Also it doesn't take much force to bite off an ear, and usually freaks out the attacker
A solid throat punch on the other hand...
Also go for the eyes Boo. There's no 'dirty pool' when you're fighting for your life and if you're
But I've made myself a promise that I will surprise everyone with how incredibly unfairly I will fight. Not even self-defense, just punitive stuff. I want the guy my ghost haunts to be blind.
"You get your hands on anything, and you beat the other guy, and when he goes down, then you really start beating him"
Extremely painful AND disarms their ability to catch up with you.
In-step
Nose
Groin.
Kids get, break the grip then run and yell.
They are primed to pull back, and so you have a large energy advantage; and because they expect you to pull away, leaning in feels like aggression, and shifts the initiative.
Not from 'serious' danger (probably) but when you get to the point that someone has grabbed your wrist and you just slip out of it like it's nothing there's a couple seconds of shock
Situations where someone's angry, though, are different than when someone is coldly determined to hurt you, ofc.
Also helps being an adult "man."
Because like Twitter someone will be like "Oh YEAH? You're going to just 'deescalate' the COPS, huh?"
IN GENERAL. There are always, but always, exceptions to any ...not rule but 'mostly'.
Because you're fighting with a gang member with authority and lethal force, who will get paid time off if they kill you.
My experience is more medical like when dealing with dementia. They may not intend to harm, but could harm you inadvertently.
situational awareness
don't run from danger
rather
run toward safety
no safety?
FIGHT
...
fun skill
be okay talking to yourself verbally out loud
phone in hand
conversing
even if no one is there
ALSO: old school “weapon” - put a roll of quarters in an old stocking … a killer bolo that can give you some distance between you & the attacker.
