Will also take heed & wait a couple of years before visiting the Vasari corridor; thank you for including the wonderful translation around “original simplicity”! A weekend in December to Florence was delightful! An opportunity for a spontaneous Accademia visit to sit for 45 minutes with David!

For anyone interested in the self-portraits rather than the corridor itself, it may be worth pointing out that they are allegedly all on display in galleries near the entrance to the corridor.

We did a house sit in Florence over Christmas and New Year some time ago with a beagle who tried to eat every piece of discarded pizza in the city. We had the Uffizi to ourselves. It was magic. And night time walks on the closed up Ponte Vecchio were a delight. Pity about the corridor. 🙄

It looks like simple entry to the Uffizi is €25, so it's an extra €18 for the corridor (all + €2 booking fee). But you only get 2 hours in the galleries first.

I am relieved someone feels the same as I do about Florence. It is a beautiful city with amazing art, but unlike Venice, where I actually find it easy to escape crowds, it is harder to do in Firenze. Of course, my Florentine friends disagree. Also, good to know that info about the Vasari Corridor!

Some of my happiest hours have been escaping down empty calli with my camera, capturing the life of that incredible city. As an aside, I just saw your profile. You used to be the ED at the Shaw Festival, if I’m not mistaken? I’ve had connections to NOTL and Stratford for nearly 50 years!

You did a great job of saving Shaw in the 90s. I’m seeing Ransacking Rome which Jackie Maxwell is directing at Stratford later this year. As for Venice, I’m not there as often as I’d like. Trying to figure out a time to get there this spring, but given my schedule, it may not happen until autumn.
