I don't have a problem when the party splits up, you just have to divide your attention a bit. The only real cost is that the smart characters can't help if the other characters are at a loss for what to do next but in a different part of town.
Hmm... This makes me think of making or adding to the existing bonds mechanic, which is currently only narrative in Daggerheart, but could probably be used like experiences allow a player to have a "what would [character] do" moment and draw upon other character strengths.
