But we need to engage with Trump voters. We need to discuss kitchen table issues. We need to discuss their biggest concerns and how to address those issues. We need to have some conversations where we are likely to get hostile responses. We also need to keep our calm.

Is it possible to do door to door surveys in regards to their elected leaders votes on issues? Just a simple -How do you feel about (insert issue & vote). I’ll never understand how people could vote down Right to work & vote in Vicky Hartzler on the same ballot.

I live in NY, which is only blue because of NYC. The rest of the state is farmland. I live in the poorest county in the state.

From my experience, money always helps, but my local dem committee also does things like postcard writing campaigns, which can be done from anywhere.

I am in a very red community. We hardly ever have any democratic candidates on the ballot for anything! We have 1 democrat on the city council. We had a 2 time democrat mayor who got voted out this last election. It is very discouraging.

I have been having this argument for years. Moved to semi rural area about 15 years ago from Houston. The difference was stark. It has been getting better but didn’t vote in almost 1/2 of races on ballot because GOP ran unopposed. How do you get blue voters to vote when there is no one to vote for?

Indeed. When I lived in rural GA, and now that I live in SC, there are ZERO local Dem candidates on the ballot. State repr had a challenger, but all of the locals offices down to coroner, etc ran unopposed.

The Democratic Party has completely lost its understanding of how important it is to fight every seat locally. If nothing else, it stops the Republicans from successfully demonizing Democrats because people see people they know personally running on the Democratic ticket.

It’s so maddening to me that so many “blue people” act like Red America is something abstract. While it can be maddening, living amongst so many people I disagree with actually makes me a more conscientious person. It’s harder to spit vitriol at someone you know.
