@mattblaze Their situation reminds me of cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev, who accidentally got stuck on Mir for over 311 days—he was there when the USSR collapsed, leading to an involuntarily extended stay in orbit.

For the record, I am aware that the astronauts on the space station were not incommunicado for those nine months. You do not need to correct me about this point. I already knew. I was telling a *joke*, a genre which generally permits some poetic license with factual information.
