I compare him a little bit to Slobodian, they both have this weird air, but Slobodian's work is vital now. Also he is speaking to larger narratives and debates, Moyn seems like he's talking to himself

Moyn's foreign policy views aren't motivated by any kind of internationalism, but by the naive and simplistic belief that foreign entanglements are all that is keeping America from being a perfect social democracy. The rest of the world can go hang for all that he cares.

This vision was always very inward-looking, US-centric but we should ask ourselves how he rose to such a prominent place as an academic and public intellectual. Maybe some good will come from Progressive Europeans being less subservient to US Progressives

Like a lot of provocative intellectuals, he’s better at critique than construction, and his work is insightful but to me rarely persuasive; I leave appreciating his critique but more convinced than ever that “Cold War liberalism” is the moral bedrock to modern progress.
