In this case I see some interesting motion blurring and lighting use. Color palette obviously is a massively important determinant. Makes it all look like handycam footage.

As a blender artist myself you also have to think about an important factor of realism. Compositing. It plays a huge game in making images/videos pop.

Oh, you know, it's just a game engine – a set of tools, basically, relevant to making games work. It doesn't automatically make game look or play one way or another – that's on the developer to decide how to use and modify what's available in the particular toolkit at outset.

I imagine most modern commercial engines offer capabilities to produce this kind of visuals (I wonder if Godot does – it's an open sourse project so it doesn't get as much funding as something like Unreal)

Is the game any better than it was at early access launch? Beat it 4 or 5 times with a few deaths in between due to random peaks from background noise. It had a lot of issues with the main ones for me being it wasn't actually scary and the timer freezing if you entered a building.

is the mic pickup the only thing that ends the game? i AM really jumpy and twitchy/flinchy when i'm startled but i never vocalize it. at most i may do a quiet sharp inhale. does that 'break' the game??

I like the concept, I just think this removes the streamability of the game, which was a huge part of its success.
How can someone create content out of this game when they need to be quiet the whole time?
