Still incredibly entertaining, but a little emptier/messier with the characters and story. Still much prefer the original, but this is a welcomed sequel.
The first half felt like it was following the same plot line as the original, then as it got into its own it was really good, not quite as good first one, but not far off.
I was entertained. DW carries the film, clearly being head and shoulders above the rest of the cast in terms of ability.
A bit too much "copy/paste" from the original. The Twin Emperors were a bit "meh". Definitely not as good as the original, but still a 7, maybe 7.5/10.
It was incredible! Ariana’s vocal skills were on full display, Jonathon Bailey danced his heart out, and Cynthia Erivo stole the goddamned show. I had chills during the final number.
The first half was a little too much like the original, but the second half was excellent. Nowhere near the degree of the original but a fun sequel and a good show of what Ridley can still do at his age.
Not great. Too much focus on spectacle and very shallow character development. The movie is just an excuse to go from one fight scene to the next. Mescal was miscast and Connie Nielsen looks about as ancient Roman as I do, which is not at all. #Gladiator2
Meh. Entertaining enough in a ‘spectacle’ way, but the script was dreadful and Mescal’s ‘roistering’ speeches had me thinking of David Brent from The Office. I’m guessing that’s not what they were going for?
It follows a lot of beats from the first one, but it's still an overall solid movie. The cast, especially, Denzel Washington, really shine along with the action scenes.
The CGI monkeys and sharks were terrible. I cant believe those scenes got green lighted. Paul Mescal did a decent job, PP and CN were underutilized, the script was lukewarm, and the twins were more Mad Max insanity than the subtlety of Joaquin Phoenix. Pales in comparison to the original.
It was good entertainment. It can't compare to the first that was revolutionary at the time.
I wish they’d picked someone different for Macrinus. Imagine Idris Elba instead of Denzel!
Had a date night with my wife tonight and watched #Gladiator2 . @pascaldaily.bsky.social was amazing and so was Paul Mescal. Joseph Quinn has an uncanny resemblance to a young RDJ and was great as well. Overall pretty fun movie, story came together as far fetched as the idea of the plot seemed.
Why on earth did they decide to have ENGLISH inscriptions/writings in a movie set in ANCIENT ROME? That broke my heart. Some latins inscriptions were wrong too. Virtus et Honore should have been Virtus et HONOR
Similar to Beetlejuice, there was a good idea for a sequel in there somewhere, but it was an overwritten mess. At least Beetlejuice didn't mirror it's original to a fault like Gladiator 2. Ugh, just so disappointing honestly. Hate that Ridley Scott's best work is so clearly behind him.
I think it is an amazing movie! It has a great story that catches up to the first one and I think the actors and actresses are incredible and doing such a nice performance. The CGI is stunning! Those animals and fight scenes are incredibly made. Ofc, not as great as the first one, but it's good!🤩
Denzel was fantastic, the brothers were detestable every time they were on screen.
Pablo was great as someone who was sick of their shit.
Paul did well for the shoes he had to fit in for the role.
It was a fun time at the movies. Maybe not as good as the first but it didn't have to be.
Loved it, although the boats scene did feel a little ‘ancient Rome does Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean’. Happy to report it’s not a money grabbing facsimile of the original
Not a worthy successor. Not a bad movie but not near the originals story telling, tempo, emotion or soundtrack which was sorely missing except in bits and pieces save the ending credits.
I really didn't like it, despite not having any expectations. Half of the major actions felt completely groundless/unmotivated, pacing was rushed. I didn't think it needed an (unexplained) plot tie to the previous film; to me, it made Rome and the empire feel small. Like a TV drama.
It was a pure action movie that wasnt really concerned with the story and characters which the opposite of the first. A lot felt rushed and the coliseum fights were clearly meant to be the draw of the movie but were overly cgi. The whole third act was anticlimactic. DW carried a lot of it.
The movie needed more Pedro Pascal tbh. He was more of a plot device which sucked. The twin emperors sucked. Visually stunning. Action packed. But overall shallow. Coulda been a netflix movie tbh
Y'all gonna make me end up seeing this movie tomorrow the way everyone's talking about it. And then I'm gonna have to pretend not once, but twice that I haven't already seen it.
Loved the story and the boats fight in the coliseum was amazing! Maybe, the character from Denzel could have put more difficulty but it was actually a great movie 🍿
NOT GOOD. Perfect example of a lot of the problems in modern Hollywood tentpoles. Constant nostalgia bait that was smashed together with whatever true sequel ideas they had that resulted in a terribly paced jumble. Had a couple enjoyable action scenes and some good choreography at least
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but I’m shocked as you that people think this was better. I felt it was inferior in every way. The gladiator fights never matched the intensity of the first and not having Zimmer’s amazing score didn’t help.
Nostalgia can't negate the accuracy they had an imposter playing the part of Marcius Aurelius (A Black Roman Emperor) simply proposterous blasphemous even🤷🏾♂️ Gladiator 2 suggests correction!!!!!
That is a lie don't fall for white wash rhetoric in any capacity he was a black Roman emperor that is an undeniable FACT. The same goes for Septimus Severus as it does for Denzel's depiction of Marcinius in Gladiator 2!!!!
I didn’t hate it, but having rewatched the extended edition of the first one the night before it definitely falls short. A solid film with very predictable plot points including from Denzel surprisingly. 7.5/10

Wished I had waited to stream it frankly.
It’s always a treat heading to the Logan Theatre in #Chicago whenever there’s something that deserves the full-screen treatment 🍿🥤🎥 h

Didn't feel as fleshed out as the first film but still good fun, a 2.5D world compared to a full 3D one. Will still see a 2nd time though.

I'll watch it when it's available through less legitimate channels.
This one keeps up with the original
