Um, the book writer passed in 1994 in Switzerland.

He was never part of it. Also, the book is damn near a retelling and romanticization of the Sengoku Jidai wra of Japan. Specifically the final years of it. They will be fine

I'm not saying he was ever part of it, but adapting a show from a written book is way easier than using the written book as a platform to write original stuff without input from the writer. They are going to go off the rails laid by the writer.

The writer's story is a romanticization of the war between Ieyasu Tokugawa and Mitsunari Ishida of the Western and Eastern armies respectfully.

Also, the show changed key plot points in the book. Tbh im not that worried

There’s no novel as source but they have historic accounts and from what I’ve read/seen, there’s good material to work on. If they keep the production team untouched and can write a decent level script, it should be fine.
