I agree. And as you probably know by now, it’s a known Conservative tactic to confuse grand mom&dad into voting for “whatever name they can remember” (in this case Poilievre). They have successfully done it in the past

Before they put party affiliation on the ballot I remember one grandmom who forgot to check the name of her local candidate and voted for the one with the nice Irish name later discovering that he was the candidate for the communist, not conservative, party
EXACTLY! Many people have a lot going on, forget stuff, and might resort to picking whatever name they can remember (in this case Poilievre) b/c they are too embarrassed to ask for help. These “longest ballot” guys know that very well, and they are playing stupid by promoting their made up “cause”
I had to give someone the name of the lib candidate just prior to casting their vote...unfortunately I couldn't remember if the name & the party was listed side by side. So they could have figured it out themselves. But ya it's a thing that people don't pay enough attention to to recall names!
With our really long ballot (Carleton) it's helpful to remember the name as they are in alphabetical order (Fanjoy, about half way down the left column). Reading for the party affiliation is much slower.
